About Lucy Ana Krasno

After surviving a coma in 1964, Lucy Ana Krasno was diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus Type 1.

Before she even knew how to read and write, Lucy had to quickly learn how to take full responsibility for her life. She couldn’t understand why she couldn’t have a cookie or a piece of candy, something that was so delicious. Endless injections became part of her life. Checking sugar in the urine became a routine everyday occurrence. A diabetic diet was a must for survival.

Lucy’s journey with diabetes takes the reader into all aspects of her life. Staring with schooldays and making friends, infections that came along the way, and handling peer-pressure, it continues on with adolescent encounters, dating, marriage and caregiving.

Lucy received a 50-year Bronze medal award from the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Massachusetts.  This award is only given to long-term Type 1 Diabetes recipients.

Lucy received an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science and Certification in Medical Assisting in 1983. She has worked for many types of Medical Practices and later worked for various corporations over the years.

Just recently, in March of 2020, Lucy encountered a brush with the COVID-19 virus. Incredibly, she battled and survived it despite having Diabetes.
